DISCIPLESHIP BELFAST - AUTUMN 2011 - FACT SHEET

In the autumn of 2010, the Kirk Session of Townsend Street Presbyterian Church asked Robert Ballard (who is a volunteer missionary serving with their pastoral staff) to recruit some of the former Youth With A Mission (YWAM) and Operation Mobilization (OM) staffers who are still living in Belfast to help develop and conduct a discipleship programme for young adults here in Belfast. Many young adults are unable to afford the finances and/or time commitments involved in a “year out” type programme. The vision put forth was for a locally based “live at home” inter-denominational, cross community Christian discipleship programme that would offer many of the rewarding aspects of the residential and “year out” discipleship schools of Christian organizations, such as: Christ for the Nations, The Cause, International House of Prayer (IHOP), Mercy Ships, Operation Mobilization (OM), and Youth With A Mission (YWAM) in a shorter time frame and an appropriately affordable price.

 

After much prayer and several discussions, we are moving forward with the school. We will be offering a 9-week discipleship, setup in the format of an evening lecture series, with local outreaches and 1 or 2 weekend retreats. The following is an overview of our plans at present.

 

Dates: 24 August 2011 – 21 October 2011

3 evenings a week - Wednesday - Friday 7:00-10:00PM

2-4 Saturdays for retreats and/or local outreach

 

Locations: Lectures and meetings will take place at the Townsend Street Social Outreach Centre.

(Local outreach and retreat sites are yet to be determined.)

 

Cost: It is our hope that we will be able to keep the total donation around 120.00 GBP per student.

 

Speakers: It is our hope to have our lectures presented by dynamic speakers from around the UK and Ireland, as well as from right here in Belfast.

 

Lecture topics will include the following:

- Nature and Character of God

- Spiritual Warfare

- Worship

- Holy Spirit

- Evangelism

- Original Design

- Relationships

- Reconciliation

- Intercessory Prayer

 

After this 9-week discipleship school we will conduct an extensive review and prepare to develop and offer a second school in spring 2012. The spring school will be followed by an optional outreach to another country/culture. The students of the fall 2011 class will be invited and encouraged to participate in the optional spring 2012 outreach. We are currently, prayerfully considering either Finland or Iceland as the outreach destination.

 

We are praying that God will draw together young people who desire to deepen their relationship with Jesus and step out into all that God has planned for them.
